BOOK REVIEW:
TEACH YOUR CHILD TO READ IN 100 EASY LESSONS
Reviewed by: D. McNett, Valyermo, California
This book made it so easy and enjoyable to teach my children to read. The lessons are all planned out and the book even tells the teacher exactly what to say for each lesson. This book was the one we used to teach our son to read and we used it for our daughter to review phonics and improve her reading. She enjoyed doing several lessons each day. This book uses phonics and the distar reading method. We often did something special after each ten lessons were completed. I highly recommend this book to all of my friends who are teaching their children to read. At the end of 100 lessons your child will be on a second grade reading level.

Teaching your child to read couldn't be easier than with this book. There is no preparation time, and each scripted lesson takes 20 minutes or less. It is phonics-based, and has your child reading on a solid 2nd grade level when he finishes the book. The stories are silly, but children love them and they get the job done!

I love this method of teaching. Children learn the sounds the letters and blends make before learning the names of the letters. The method is Distar. This book tells you every word to say as you go and is a very positive experience for the child learning to read.

Non-traditional phonics using a unique "alphabet" of sounds. Seems strange, but works beautifully in actually starting children to read quickly, which gets them excited, and they don't want to stop. We used the book 10 minutes per day and within 2 months my 6 year old son was reading second grade materials with ease. This is a child who had no interest in reading! We had no trouble transitioning over to Professor Phonics for more intense study, so that was a plus.

I used this book with my son who is now in second grade and am now using it to teach my 5 year old son to read. He can't believe how easy it is. Every time we get to the story of the day, he gets so excited. The first thing he tells Dad is about the story he read. Some days he wants to do 2 or 3 lessons. I highly recommend it. Other reviews I have read say that it is not a strong phonics program, but my 7 yr. old is having no difficulty deciphering new words, or spelling. I tried supplementing with phonics workbooks, but I found that they were almost holding him back. In my opinion, the goal of teaching phonics is to help children read and spell. T.Y.C.T.R.I.100 E.L. does this, just in a non-traditional phonics kind of way. I love it and will use with every child I have!!!
